Access Bank (Ghana) PLC has unveiled social media personality and philanthropist Annor James Tetteh, popularly known as Nana Tea, as the ambassador for its flagship sustainability project,
“A Sandal More for a Better Tomorrow.” The announcement, made at the Bank’s Head Office in Accra, marks the launch of the project’s third phase, which continues to improve community wellbeing by distributing eco-friendly, durable sandals to children in need, ensuring access to safe and sustainable footwear.
Nana Tea, who played a significant role in the project’s second phase, was appointed Ambassador to reinforce Access Bank’s commitment to sustainability and social impact. Edward Nelson-Addy, Head of Corporate Communications & Brands Management, emphasised that Nana Tea’s dedication to empowering the less privileged aligns with the Bank’s mission to foster an inclusive, sustainable future. Nana Tea pledged to leverage his influence to inspire more Ghanaians to support the initiative.
Since its launch in 2023, the project has reached 210 schools across all 16 regions, delivering over 21,000 sandals, planting more than 200 trees, and educating over 70,000 schoolchildren on environmental sustainability, waste recycling, and tree planting. By recycling old car tyres into school sandals, the initiative combines child welfare with sustainable environmental practices while creating over 500 jobs for local shoemakers in the Ashanti Region.

The project aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By turning waste into high-quality footwear, educating children, and supporting local artisans, it demonstrates how corporate responsibility can drive environmental change and community development.
Access Bank Ghana, operating from over 700 branches in 22 countries and multiple representative offices worldwide, has received recognition, including Euromoney’s Best Bank for ESG, for its sustainability practices. The Bank remains committed to creating lasting impact by promoting environmental conservation, social wellbeing, and community empowerment.
